The Hustle Lie That’s Keeping You Stuck

Rene Robaina, VITAL Guide, shares how working smarter—not harder—can transform your business, boost sales, and create sustainable success.

Let’s be real—if success was just about working harder, every exhausted entrepreneur would be filthy rich by now.

But look around. Who’s actually winning? Spoiler alert: It’s not the ones glued to their phones 24/7, running on caffeine and sheer willpower. It’s the ones who’ve figured out how to work smarter—leveraging their time, automating the right stuff, and actually focusing on what moves the needle.

I used to think that grinding non-stop was the answer. I wore “busy” like a badge of honor, convinced that working harder would magically bring in more sales. It didn’t. Being online all day didn’t make my business grow any faster either. And working around the clock didn’t create freedom—it did the exact opposite.

If you’re constantly on the grind, you’re not leaving any room for creative thinking or innovation. And that’s a problem. According to a study by McKinsey, burnout can lead to a 68% drop in creativity and problem-solving ability. And just in case you’re still convinced that longer hours mean more results, Stanford research shows productivity actually tanks after 50 hours a week. So, if you’re pushing yourself to the limit, you’re probably getting diminishing returns—along with a side of exhaustion.

Everything changed when I stopped trying to do literally everything myself and put systems in place that worked even when I wasn’t. That shift allowed me to run a business for 20 years, sell it, and now travel the country in a motorcoach showing others how to do the same.

If your business falls apart the second you step away, that’s not a badge of honor—it’s a red flag. Fix it.
